Modernizing California Family Child Care Regulations
California’s family child care regulations have not received a comprehensive modernization since 1982. This policy one-pager outlines why updating the regulatory framework is necessary to reflect current research, workforce realities, and the needs of today’s families.
The document highlights key structural challenges within the current system and proposes the creation of a commission that would bring together research, data, and stakeholder input to develop a modern regulatory framework that supports both educator sustainability and child safety.
