Family Child Care Educators: We Are More Than They Think.

This week at #CAAEYC2025, I had the honor of leading an advocacy session centered on Family Child Care — the most misunderstood, underestimated, and yet deeply impactful part of the early childhood field.
Through my work with Child Care Changemakers and the Leaders Shaping Leaders Fellowship, I’ve learned that advocacy isn't just about policy — it’s about identity. It’s about standing in our truth and reminding the world that:
We are not babysitters.
We are educators.
Our home-based environments do not diminish our professionalism — they reflect our creativity, resilience, and care.
Advocacy has changed my life. It has empowered me to use my voice, grow my leadership, and expand my footprint in ECE in ways I never imagined.
To every FCC provider out there who feels unseen or underestimated: keep going. Your voice matters. Your work matters. And your presence in this field is powerful.
